Final week of the season

I am going to need a miracle to catch Brad for the lead. Here it goes.
49ers 28 Rams 10 (16). No brainer
Steelers 24 Browns 7 (15)
Patriots 24 Bills 14 (14). Brady will play the 1st half and the Patriots coast the rest of the way.
Chiefs 21 Broncos 7 (13). We saw the rise and now comes the fall of Tebow.
Atlanta 21 Bucaneers 7 (12). Tampa Bay will be needing new coaches next season.
Titans 20 Texans 10 (11). Too many players are hurt for Houston to win.
Packers 30 Lions 14 (10). Lions are getting better but have a long way to go to get to the Packers level.
Raiders 20 Chargers 10 (9). Chargers will finally get rid of Norv Turner afterward.
Bears 14 Vikings 7 (8).
Eagles 20 Redskins 13 (7). If only Philadelphia could have figured it out earlier.
Saints 27 Carolina 14 (6)
Colts 20 Jaguars 10 (5). Colts won't get Luck now.
Cardinals 14 Seahawks 13 (4).
Ravens 21 Bengals 17( 3). Baltimore wins with defense.
Dolphins 24 Jets 14 (2). Admit it Jets, Sanchez sucks!
Giants 31 Cowboys 24 (1). A close one but the Giants take over in the 4th quarter

christmas eve games

Christmas is almost upon us and teams many teams are fighting for their playoff lives. Some teams will be feeling jolly and others will have a blue christmas after Saturday's games. Below are my picks filled with some Christmas references.

Packers 30 Bears 7 (16). Santa can't deliver the bears a quarterback and Green Bay will get back on track.
Ravens 28 Browns 10 (15). Cleveland won't be in a winter wonderland,more like a house of pain.
Patriots 28 Dolphins 14 (14). New England is Mr Snow Miser, Miami is Mr Heat Miser. In New Engalnd take Mr Snow Miser (anyone get those references?).
Steelers 20 Rams 7 (13). Jack frost won't be nipping on the Rams nose but the Steelers will be breaking their bones.
Saints 28 Falcons 17 (12). Drew Brees won't bring joy to the world but he will bring joy to New Orleans.
Carolina 24 Tampa Bay 10 (11). I double dog dare anybody to pick Tampa.
Broncos 17 Bills 14 (10).Tebow pulls of another last second victory and Bronco fans will proclaim he was born from a virgin birth.
49ers 24 Seahawks 14 (9). Jim Harbaugh will fill Pete Carroll's stockings with coal and hand him another loss.
Titans 20 Jaguars 14 (8). Santa like the city of Jacksonville will ignore the Jaguars wish for a victory. Get a new home Jacksonville.
Redskins 21 Vikings 14 (7). Hark the herald angels sing, the Vikings suck and will never wear a superbowl ring (that was a bit uncalled for).
Chargers 24 Detroit 17 (6) Suh has been very naughty this year and the Chargers will make Detroit pay.
Cardinals 20 Bengals 10 (4). Cardinals have been flying higher than Santa's magic reindeers.
Chiefs 17 Raiders 14 (3). Chiefs miracles started early last week with their victory agains green bay and will continue here.
Cowboys 28 Eagles 24 (2). Rob Ryan who looks like a department store Santa Claus after a drinking binge won't make the same mistakes he made the last time they played.
Giants 24 Jets 21 (1). This game should be played on the island of misfit toys since it is between two disappointing teams on the decline. Eli will prevail in the last minute.

Merry Christmas everybody!!

week 14

I definitely need to catch up quick if I'm to beat Brad this year and will need to make like the Giants did against the Cowboys and pull off a late comeback. Below are my picks.
Packers 41 Chiefs 7 (16). Packers are unstoppable right now.
Saints 30 Vikings 10 (15). Saints are the 2nd best team in the NFC
Ravens 24 Chargers 14 (14). Ravens are the best team in the AFC
Titans 31 Colts 10 (13). Colts will go winless this year.
Dolphins 20 Bills 10 (12). Sad to see Buffalo fade into oblivion when the year started so well.
Bengals 31 Rams 10 (11). Rams are the 2nd worst team in the NFL
Giants 27 Redskins 14 (10). Giants won't lose the momentum they gained from the victory over Dallas.
Lions 24 Raiders 14 (8). Suh is back and Carson Palmer will pay.
Houston 17 Carolina 13 (6). Tough one but Houston has finally shown the ability to win close games.
Jets 20 Eagles 17 (5). Jets always surge at this point in the season.
Cardinals 24 Browns 16 (4).
Seahawks 21 Bears 7 (3). Bears have no quarterback no running back and use to have a drug distributor at wide receiver.
Patriots 21 Denver 20 (2). Brady wins it late instead of Tebow.
49ers 17 Steelers 14(1). I'm assuming Rothlisberger won't play

week 14 saturday

dallas 21 bucaneers 14 (7). This should be a higher confidence pick but Dallas beats themselves so much I can't go higher

week 13

I need a strong week if I'm going to catch Brad for the lead. I'm already of to a slow start witht eh Eagles loss to Seattle I knew the eagles were fading but I didn't know they are spiraling downward at warp speed . Below are the rest of my picks
Patriots 56 Colts 7 (16). Too obvious!
49ers 24 Rams 14 (15).
Packers 35 Giants 17 (14). Giants are falling fast.
Saints 27 Lions 14 (13). Lions can't win without Suh.
Cowboys 23 Cardinals 17 (12). Cardinals will put up a fight.
Falcons 24 Houston 14 (11). It will be too hard for Houston to win with a 3rd string quarterback.
Chicago 21 Chiefs 7 (10). Bears will win by creating turnovers.
Jets 27 Redskins 20 (9). Jets defense will bail out Mark Sanchez once again.
Ravens 21 Browns 17 (8). I'm worried about this one. Ravens struggle against inferior opponents.
Titans 21 Bills 17 (7).
Miami 24 Raiders 17 (6). Too bad the Dolphins started the season so poorly.
TB 20 Carolina 14 (4). No one is talking much about Cam Newton any more.
Steelers 20 Bengals 17 (3). This one will be won in the last seconds of the game.
Broncos 20 Vikings 14 (2). Tebow can't keep winning the way he is but it's hard to tell when this will end.
Jaguars 17 Chargers 13 (1)

rest of week 12

I went 2 of 3 over Thanksgiving and tomorrow's games have tight matchups with future playoff implications.
Steelers 30 Chiefs 13 (16). Steelers dominate.
Atlanta 27 Vikings 10 (15). Adrian Peterson is out and the Vikings offense will struggle.
Bengals 21 Browns 13 (14). Why is the media ignoring Andy Dalton?
Jets 24 Buffalo 7 (13). The Jets are fading but the Bills are speeding on the downhill run.
Houston 20 Jacksonville 17 (12). Houston will barely prevail by making Matt Leinart hand the ball off.
Patriots 20 Eagles 14 (11). Since Michael Vick is out the Patriots will squeak by.
Saints 28 Giants 21 (10). Saints at home will hang on to win.
Broncos 20 Chargers 14 (9). Tim Tebow won't need a miracle to win this game, just stupid plays from Phillip Rivers and he'll get it.
Bears 21 Raiders 17 (8). Even without Cutler the Bears will win with their defense.
Titans 27 Bucaneers 7 (7).
Seahwawks 20 Redskins 14 (6).
Cardinals 17 Rams 10 (4).
Panthers 20 Colts 10 (3).

Thanksgiving Day Games

Week 12 will have some of the tightest matchups this season and it starts with tomorrow's Thanksgiving day games. All three games will be close so I hope everyone has their thanksgiving meals early because there will be some exciting games to watch. Here are my picks:
Cowboys 24 Dolphins 20 (5). The improving Dolphins will keep this one close but Tony Romo's new found confidence will prevail.
Ravens 17 49ers 14 (2). I'm taking Jon Harbaugh to beat Jim since the Ravens are home and have played well in high profile games this season.
Lions 30 Packers 21 (1). Upset pick. The Lions beat Green Bay last year at home and will create enough pressure on Rodgers to win again this season. The Packers will still win the superbowl but not tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

week 11

I'm off to a bad start with the 'miracle worker" Tim Tebow pulling off another victory over the Jets. Mark Sanchez is making a real push to be the worst quarterback playing football at this time. In spite of this I intend to finish up strong and below are the rest of my picks.
Packers 35 Bucanneers 10 (14). Packers keep rolling.
49ers 21 Cardinals 10 (13). Jim Harbaugh will be coach of the year at the end of the season.
Cowboys 31 Redskins 14 (12). Redskins defense will keep it close in the first half and the cowboys dominate in the 2nd half.
Patriots 27 Chiefs 10 (11).
Giants 24 Eagles 10 (10). Eagles are fading and the Giants are seeking revenge for last year's devastating loss.
Bears 21 Chargers 14 (9). Phillip Rivers will find another way to lose the game against an improving Bears defense.
Lions 23 Panthers 17 (8). Lions are starting to decline but still have more talent than Carolina.
Baltimore 20 Bengals 10 (6). Even without Ray Lewis the Ravens get back on track after last week's loss.
Falcons 27 Titans 14 (5). Falcons are still a good team at home.
Dolphins 24 Bills 20 (4). Dolphins are rising and the Bills are falling.
Oakland 21 Vikings (3). Boring.
Jaguars 17 Browns 14 (2). Even more boring.
Seahawks 14 Rams 13 (1). I'm asleep

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

start of week 11

Jets 30 Broncos 14 (7). Tim Tebow won last week completing only two passes and God does not perform miracles every week.

Saturday, November 12, 2011

week 10

I'm already off to a lousy start by picking that pathetic loser Phillip Rivers to beat Oakland. This is the toughest week yet to pick games with so many close matchups. Here we go.

Packers 24 Vikings 21 (16). Vikings at home keep it close but Packers keep their unbeaten streak going.
Jaguars 24 Colts 14 (15).
Ravens 27 Seahawks 20 (14). Ravens will get over their hangover of beating the Steelers just in time to win.
Eagles 28 Cardinals 10 (13). Eagles are in a must win game.
Saints 24 Falcons 20 (12). A little too many offensive weapons for Atlanta to handle
Steelers 21 Bengals 17 (11). Would like to be wrong but Pittsburgh's defense will make rookie QB Andy Dalton turnover the ball too many times.
Miami 24 Redskins 14 (10). It's too late but the Dolphins are starting to turn their season around.
Titans 21 Panthers 17 (9). I'll take the team with the veteran QB.
Houston 20 Bucaneers 17 (8).
Browns 21 Rams 14 (7).
49ers 21 Giants 17 (6). 49ers at home are the best team no one is talking about
Chargers 24 Raiders 14 (5)
Chiefs 21 Broncos 17 (4). Tebow will grab more headlines in both good and bad ways.
Chicago 27 Lions 21 (3). Will someone start giving Jay Cutler some credit.
Cowboys 24 Bills 21 (2). Which Cowboy team will show up. As long as they don't pass too much they should squeak by.
Jets 24 Patriots 17 (1). Close one but New England with no deep threat is starting to get exposed

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

thursday's game

San Diego 27 Raiders 20 (5). Phillip Rivers is a loser but Carson Palmer couldn't even beat Tim Tebow.

Saturday, November 5, 2011

week 9

Now is the time in the season for the truly good teams to rise and separate themselves from the pretenders like what I will do this week as I plan to surge past my rivals. Some close games this week.
Atlanta 30 Colts 14 (14). Atlanta is bad on the road but the Colts could go winless this year.
Packers 28 Chargers 21 (13). Chargers will compete but Phillip Rivers will find another way to lose.
Saints 35 Tampa Bay 10 (12). Saints won't have two bad games in a row.
Raiders 24 Broncos 10 (11). Carson Palmer needs to get his form back and Tim Tebow needs to find another position to play.
Houston 21 Cleveland 17 (10).
49ers 24 Redskins 13 (9). Redskins decline will accelerate tomorrow.
Bengals 24 Titans 21 (8). I hope Andy Dalton starts getting some recognition.
Bills 28 Jets 21 (7).
Dallas 30 Seahawks 17 (6). Philly exposed Dallas's weakness on defense but the Seahawks don't have near enough offensive talent to take advantage.
Patriots 27 Giants 21 (5). I'm only taking New England since they are playing at home.
Eagles 31 Bears 17 (4). This is the time of season Philadelphia surges.
Miami 21 Chiefs 17 (3). Upset pick. Chiefs are overrated.
Rams 21 Cardinals 20 (2).
Steelers 28 Ravens 27 (1). Steelers will once again take advantage of Joe Flacco turnovers.

Friday, October 28, 2011

week 8

The game is on now with my rivals and I must now use more than 1/10th of my brain to make my upcoming picks. Not a problem. In response to Brad's 3rd rate comments regarding my analytical skills regarding the weekly topics we talk about, it is important to be note that this is a man who thinks that Michael Bay's Transformers movies are works of art. These are movies suited for the person with a 2 second attention span and below are my picks which Brad will not have the attention span to read all the way through.
Giants 31 Dolphins 14 (13). Eli is the best Manning playing football today.
Ravens 27 Cardinals 10 (12). Joe Flacco worries me but Baltimore will look to get back on track after last week's performance against Jacksonville.
Saints 30 Rams 14 (11). Rams are the worst team in the NFC right now.
Cowboys 28 Eagles 10 (10). Michael Vick gets knocked out in the first quarter of this game. Dog lovers everywhere will rejoice.
Detroit 24 Denver 14 (9). Tim Tebow is praying that Ndamokah Suh will show pity on the meek.
Chargers 24 Chiefs 14 (8). Chargers need to put the Jets loss behind them.
Titans 24 Colts 7 (7). Everyone now knows the reason for another Colt loss.
49ers 21 Browns 14 (6).
Bills 31 Redskins 17 (5). Bills should dominate a team about to go in decline.
Panthers 27 Vikings 14 (4). Cam Newton will shine this week.
Patriots 24 Steelers 10 (3). Tom Brady will school Troy Polomalu again.
Texans 24 Jaguars 10 (2). Jaguars with a short week won't win two games in a row.
Bengals 20 Seahawks 14 (1). Boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday, October 21, 2011

week 7

Another 8 and 5 record using only 1/10th of my brain and I remain in the lead. I'm sure my competitors are now realizing how bad they will soon be dominated after I start applying myself to this more so if any of them wish to drop out of this contest now, they may. If you choose to stay I will be using for this week only 1/100th of my brain on these picks. The Texas Rangers in the world series is taking up all my attention but with that being said here are my picks for this week.
Saints 31 Colts 16 (13). If only Peyton Manning could return sooner.
Ravens 28 Jaguars 13 (12). Right now Baltimore is the best team in the AFC
Packers 35 Vikings 10 (11). Vikings are starting a rookie QB against the Packer defense. That's getting thrown to the wolves.
Cowboys 28 Rams 10 (10). Their record doesn't show it but the Cowboys are a pretty good team and should dominate this game.
Oakland 21 Chiefs 14 (9). The return of Carson Palmer will mean a slow start for the Raiders but they should take over and dominate in the 2nd half.
Lions 24 Falcons 14 (8). Atlanta just does not know how to play on the road.
Steelers 24 Cardinals 14 (7). A rematch of the superbowl without the excitement.
Chargers 28 Jets 17 (6). If the Chargers don't turn the ball over they should dominate and expose Mark Sanchez's many weaknesses.
Titans 21 Houston 20 (5). Houston will fade away again.
Tampa Bay 20 Bears 17 (4). Close one but Jay Cutler will turnover the ball multiple times in this game.
Carolina 21 Redskins 17 (3). The Redskins are starting John Beck who couldn't beat out Rex Grossman for the starting QB position. Trouble!
Denver 20 Miami 14 (2). A game that will generate little interest.
Seattle 21 Browns 13 (1). A game that will generate no interest.

Friday, October 14, 2011

week 6

I was 8 and 5 last week only using 1/4 of my brain and feel that I will soon be surging past my rivals. While Mr. Slag has been ripping apart Jason Garrett and Jerry Jones on his blog and Brad has been calling me the fan version of Bo Jackson (I wonder how many people actually get that reference) on his, I will be making more accurate predictions this time only using 1/10th of my brain. With almost all my focus still on the Texas Rangers, here are my picks.
Green Bay 35 Rams 10 (13). A pick that's as easy as sinking a 1 foot put.
Raiders 24 Browns 10 (12). Another tribute win to Al Davis.
Steelers 20 Jaguars 7 (11). Steelers are banged up but are still better than Jacksonville
Baltimore 21 Texans 13 (10). The loss of Mario Williams on defense and Andre Johnson on offense will be too much for Houston to overcome.
Detroit 27 49ers 17 (9). Lions on a short week still have a little too much talent for the 49ers.
Falcons 21 Panthers 20 (8). Atlanta is still a good team at home.
Jets 20 Miami 7 (7). The Jets are terribly overrated and the Dolphins are just terrible.
Saints 28 Tampa Bay 24 (6). Bucanneers should play well after a humiliating loss to San Francisco but the Drew Brees will help the Saints squeak by.
Bills 30 Giants 21 (5). Buffalo's offense is getting close to being the best in the NFL.
Redskins 21 Eagles 17 (4). Andy Reid's days are numbered. The nightmare season continues.
Bears 20 Vikings 17 (3). Taking the home team.
Bengals 21 Colts 14 (2). See comment above.
Dallas 30 Patriots 24 (1). My upset pick. Rob Ryan with a two week break will devise schemes to frustrate Tom Brady. He had success last year at Cleveland and has a better defense to work with here. The Cowboys offense should have success against New England's well below average defense.

Thursday, October 6, 2011

week 5

I went 12 and 4 last week with 113 points. So far I'm on a roll but this week will be the hardest week to pick games since there are many close match ups combined with the fact that my mind is focused on the Texas Rangers with the hope that they can make it back to the world series. With only 1/4th of my mind focusing on these NFL games (I know I left myself wide open for a put down with that) here are my picks.
Green Bay 28 Atlanta 14 (13). The Packers destroyed Atlanta in the playoffs last year and the Falcons will be feeling deja vu this Sunday.
Chargers 30 Denver 16 (12). If irrational Bronco fans get their way and Tim Tebow gets to play this game, the score will be worse.
Giants 24 Seahawks 14 (11). Giant are coming off a big win and at home should dominate even without Justin Tuck.
Saints 31 Panthers 21 (10). Cam Newton will keep the game close but the Saints will pull away in the 4th quarter.
Houston 21 Raiders 14 (9). Houston is finally figuring out how to play 4 quarters of football.
Bengal 24 Jaguars 14 (8). I got real tired just thinking of this game.
Patriots 27 Jets 20 (7). With a good quarterback the Jets could take apart New England's terrible defense. Too bad their QB is Mark Sanchez.
Bills 27 Eagles 17 (6). Eagles are doing their best impersonation of the cowboys last season.
49ers 17 Bucaneers 14 (5). Two overachieving teams will fight this one out all the way. I'll take the home team.
Titans 24 Steelers 14 (4). An injured Ben Rothlisberger will be feeling even more pain Sunday.
Lions 20 Bears 17 (3). Detroit lucked out against Dallas and won't push their luck at home.
Colts 20 Chiefs 14 (2). Curtis Painter is far from Peyton Manning but enough to beat a team like the Chiefs.
Cardinals 21 Vikings 17 (1). Flipped a coin. Heads Cardinals, Tails Vikings. Heads wins.

Friday, September 30, 2011

week 4

I was 10 and 6 last week and wasn't expecting some of the upsets that occured. I still can't see how the Patriots lost to the Buffalo Bills who are coached by Chan Gailey and quarterbacked by a Harvard grad. I guess anything is possible these days in the NFL but I don't see this many big upsets occuring but do see many close games.
Packers 35 Broncos 7 (16). No one in Denver will be feeling mile high after this game.
Chargers 30 Dolphins 14 (15). Dolphins are set to have their worst season.
Saints 27 Jaguars 7 (14). Jaguars have Maurice Jones Drew and nothing else.
Bills 31 Bengals 17 (13). The Bills could let down after a big win but I have faith in a team lead by a man with a Harvard degree.
Bucaneers 27 Colts 14 (12). Colts will get a win soon but Curtis Painter needs more experience first.
Bears 28 Panthers 21 (11). Bears defense will force Cam Newton into turnovers.
Ravens 24 Jets 17 (10). Ravens defense will overwhelm Mark Sanchez.
Giants 21 Cardinals 17 (9).
Redskins 17 Rams 10 (8). Even with Rex Grossman the Redskins are still the better team.
Vikings 14 Chiefs 10 (7). The team that can't finish a game beats the team that can't start or finish a game.
Patriots 30 Raiders 27 (6). Buffalo exposed New England's poor defense but the Patriots also lost from their 4 turnovers and Tom Brady will not let that happen two weeks in a row.
Falcons 24 Seahawks 20 (5). Falcons seldom play good on the road, Seattle seldom plays good anywhere.
Houston 28 Steelers 21 (4). If Houston learns how to play in the 4th quarter they could win going away.
Lions 24 Cowboys 20 (3). Both teams have wins against lousy opponents but injuries and the short week will work against Dallas in this game.
Eagles 27 49ers 20 (2). Tough game to pick but I'm thinking Michael Vick will not cave into the pressure of playing in the NFL until next week.
Browns 21 Titans 14 (1).

Friday, September 23, 2011

Week 3

What a strange week it was in the NFL. Rex Grossman won his 2nd straight game and Brad went 14 and 2 with his picks. I thought Christmas was the time of miracles. Contrary to what Brad put on his post, my next screenplay will be a comedy and I will get great material from Brad and John's picks along with John's inexplicable hatred for Jason Garrett and Brad's intense disgust of Eli Manning.
This week has some very difficult games to pick and I see a big upset coming this week.
Steelers 35 Colts 10 (16). No Peyton, you know the rest
Chargers 28 Chiefs 7 (15). Chiefs are the worst team in football.
Lions 31 Vikings 14 (14). Donovan McNabb meet Ndamukong Suh and enjoy your next month in the hospital.
Ravens 28 Rams 14 (13). Ravens won't play two bad games in a row.
Patriots 37 Bills 24 (12). Buffalo can keep up early with their offense but their defense is nowhere near good enough to slow down Brady.
Carolina 27 Jaguars 20 (11). I'll drink the Cam Newton kool aide.
Titans 21 Broncos 17 (10). Titans are at home and have a better quarterback.
Eagles 24 Giants 16 (9). Vick will play and the Giants wide receivers will get lost in the Eagle secondary.
Cardinals 20 Seahwaks 10 (8). Seattle is the 2nd worst team in football.
Jets 20 Raiders 17 (7). Jets defense will barely prevail here.
Packers 21 Bears 14 (6). Close one but the Bears don't have enough playmakers on offense.
49ers 24 Bengals 17 (5). Jim Harbough will have SF playing over their heads.
Cleveland 21 Dolphins 20 (4). Taking the home team.
Cowboys 24 Redskins 21 (3). Very tough game to pick. I'm counting on Demarcus Ware to force Rex Grossman to turnover the ball multiple times.
Falcons 21 Bucs 17 (2) Another tough one since Atlanta has trouble on the road but their offense has enough skilled players to pull this one out.
Houston 27 Saints 20 (1). My upset pick. Wade Phillips is an excellent defensive coordinator and will devise schemes to get Mario Williams and Brian (roid freak) Cushing to force Drew Brees into turnovers.

week 2

Another week of good match ups and I expect some teams to rebound from their disappointing first week. Here we go.
Steelers 31 Seahawks 10 (16) Steelers were embarrassed last week and will take it out on Seattle.
Bills 28 Raiders 17 (11). Ryan Fitzpatrick is the best QB no one talks about and the Raiders on the road with little rest this week have too much to overcome.
Lions 27 Chiefs 14 (14). I have never picked Detroit to win with this high a confidence level but Matt Stafford and their defense has me believing.
Packers 35 Carolina 20 (13). Cam Newton could have another big game but not enough to beat GB.
Dallas 24 49ers 10 (12). Until the 4th quarter the Cowboys looked good against the Jets so they should have no trouble beating a poor team like San Francisco.
Ravens 30 Titans 13 (15). After destroying the Steelers Baltimore should do the same with Tennessee.
Jets 21 Jaguars 7 (10). Mark Sanchez is very overrated but once again the Jets will win with their defense and special teams.
Houston 23 Dolphins 17 (9). Houston is on the road but should still beat Miami coming off a short week.
Patriots 27 Chargers 24 (8). New England will get a challenge here and have a short week to work with but since they are at home they will squeak by.
Cleveland 20 Colts 13 (7). Still can't pick the Colts until they show they can play without Manning.
Redskins 21 Caridinals 14 (6). I can't belive I'm picking a team with Rex Grossman at QB to win.
Saints 24 Bears 20 (5). Tough one to pick. Saints with a long week to work with and being at home should able to pull this one out.
Falcons 24 Eagles 21 (4). Slight upset here but The Falcons play much better at home.
Bengals 21 Broncos 14 (3). Pick your poison.
Vikings 28 Bucaneers 21 (2). Adrian Peterson will have a big game
Giants 21 Rams 14 (1). Only picking the Giants because Stephen Jackson is not healthy

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

mr slag's score

Brad has John with 12 and 4. I show him at 11 and 5 with 96 points. Mr.Slag is still off to an early lead. Don't get comfortable there John.

New NFL season week 1

It's week one with some very close match ups and difficult games to pick. I can't believe that I will be picking against the Colts with a confidence level of 16 but no Peyton Manning will equate to no wins for Indianapolis this year.
Houston 30 Colts 14 (16). Manning's neck injury looks worse than expected. More losses will follow.
Chargers 31 Vikings 14 (15). Chargers usually start slow but Donovan Mcnabb is way past his prime.
Cardinals 28 Panthers 7 (14). Kevin Cobb will have a breakout year.
Patriots 27 Dolphins 7 (13). Patriots QB is Tom Brady, Dolphins is Chad Henne. Gross mismatch.
Giants 21 Redskins 13 (12). Giants will struggle but won't lose to a team with Rex Grossman at QB.
KC 24 Bills 17 (11). Matt Cassel will play and the Chiefs are at home.
Jets 20 Cowboys 13 (10). Cowboys are starting two rookie offensive linemen and have a terrible secondary. They will be better this year but not this weekend.
Denver 17 Oakland 14 (9).
Detroit 30 Tampa Bay 20 (8). Matt Stafford is finally healthy. Detroit could finally make it to the playoffs this year if he stays that way.
Titans 20 Jaguars 13 (7). Titans have Matt Hasselbeck and Jags cut their QB today.
Eagles 28 Rams 20 (6). Rams could turn things around but Sam Bradford still has more to learn.
Packers 28 Saints 21 (5). Great way to start the season. Pack at home has a few too many weapons here.
Falcons 21 Bears 17 (4). Jay Cutler now has Roy Williams to throw the ball to. That's trouble.
Browns 23 Bengals 20 (3).
49ers 20 Seahawks 14 (2). Two bad teams with bad quarterbacks. Jim Harbough outcoached Pete Carroll twice when they were coaching in the PAC 10 and he will do it again here.
Baltimore 17 Steelers 13 (1). Another close one between two physical teams.

Upcoming NFL season

The NFL season is right around the corner and so will our contest to determine who is the most accurate in picking NFL games. I dominated the competition last year and plan on doing the same again this year. Returning will be my friends and diehard cowboy fans John and Brad along with hopefully my brother's friend Dan. If Dan opts out because he sees my record last year and knows it is impossible to beat me I will certainly understand. As for Brad and John they will enter with the delusion they can beat me which is only matched by their delusions of their beloved Dallas Cowboys making it to the superbowl. In fairness to both Brad and John they will be working at a disadvantage since after last year's disasterous cowboy season ,both were institutionalized and shortly thereafter doctor's had to resort to electroshock therapy to erase the memories of last year's cowboy debacle.
This year as a bonus I will go ahead and give my pick of the two teams that will be in the superbowl. I figure if Sports Illustrated's Peter King can do it and get paid then I should too. Last year Peter King picked the Houston Texans to be in the superbowl and this year his pick is almost as absurd. King has the Atlanta Falcons vs the San Diego Chargers with the Falcons winning.
My pick is the Green Bay Packers vs the New England Patrtiots. New England will be fueled by last year's loss to the Jets in the playoffs and still has Tom Brady in top form. Green Bay will be returning all their best players from last year and will get back tight end Jermichael Finley and running back Ryan Grant. It's hard to have a superbowl champion repeat but this will be the year it will happen and Green Bay will win their 5th superbowl in franchise history. The Pack will be back and better than ever!

The Superbowl

The superbowl is a only a day away and for cowboy fans and owner Jerry Jones, the disastrous season will have an exclamation point added to it. Two teams that kept the Cowboys from winning more superbowls (the packers in the 60s and the steelers in the 70s) are facing off and Cowboy fans will have to watch one of these teams win another superbowl in Dallas's backyard. I believe this has driven my game picking rivals and cowboy fans John and Brad to the deep end. John has locked himself in his room and been trying to make psychic contact with the souls of deceased Cowboy greats Harvey Martin and Bob Hayes while Brad has shaved his head, had a tattoo of Tom Landry's fedora drawn on his back, and started up daily conversations with trees. The snow and ice of this week has created low turnouts for the week's superbowl parties and Cowboy owner Jerry Jones must be wondering when this nightmare football season will ever end.
The season will end tomorrow in what looks to be a close game. Green Bay has a little more talent and speed but Pittsburgh is the more physical team. The loss of Steeler center Maurkice Pouncey will be a factor and Packer nose guard BJ Naji and linebacker Clay Matthews should have big games. Ben Rothlisberger however is a big agile quarterback that can make plays out of nothing and has superbowl experience as well. Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers is good at scrambling too but this will be his first superbowl and it is uncertain how he will hold up to the pressure along with facing a physical Steeler defense that excels in creating turnovers. If Rodgers is smart he will look at games the Steelers lost to the New England Patriots to see how Tom Brady is able to draw Steelers safety Troy Polomalu out of position. What I fear is that the referees may factor into this game. If you look at past superbowls the Steelers have been in there have been a few too many controversial calls that have gone their way. I am not saying that the Steelers didn't earn those victories or will need the referees help in this one but I wouldn't be surprised if the referees give them a litte help anyway. In end the Steelers physical style of play and Ben Rothlisberger's ability to excel in clutch situations will be a little too much for the Packers to handle.
Final score Pittsburgh 28 Green Bay 24.
Enjoy the game everybody.

Conference Finals

I was 2 and 2 last week due to the Jets surprising victory and the Ravens 2nd half collapse. Tomorrow's games has two excellent matchups and with the cold weather both games should be close and somewhat low scoring.
Green Bay 20 Chicago 7 (2). Chicago is solid on both offense and defense but Green Bay has more weapons on offense and dynamic players that create turnovers on defense. As long as their special teams keeps the ball away from Devon Hester they should come out on top.
Steelers 21 Jets 17 (1). Very tough game to pick. The Jets have beaten the two best quarterbacks in the last two weeks. The difference here is that they are playing a team with a much better defense than the Colts or Patriots. Rothlisberger has shown he can beat teams with a great defense and Sanchez hasn't. Jets playoff run ends here

more playoff picks

I went 3 and 1 last week with 8 points. While my opponents John (a.k.a Mr. Slag) and Brad have like their favorite football team the Dallas Cowboys had disappointing seasons, I plan to surge like the Green Bay Packers and pick every remaining playoff game right. If John or Brad do make playoff picks it will be after days of heavy drinking in the hopes that they can wipe out the many bad memories the Cowboys gave them this season.
Here are my picks.
Patriots 35 Jets 10 (4). The Jets talk the talk but won't walk the walk. Mark Sanchez had trouble completing a pass indoors in Indianapolis and now he has to play in the cold in New England. Tom Brady knows how to play in the cold and the Patriots will steamroll the Jets again.
Bears 27 Seahawks 10 (3). Seattle has never put two good games together this whole season and they won't start now. Bears should have no problem as long as Jay Cutler doesn't get stupid.
Packers 21 Falcons 14 (2). The Packers are peaking at the right time with the emergence of running back James Starks. Their defense willl give Matt Ryan problems and take control of the game in the 2nd half.
Ravens 14 Steelers 13 (1). The last time they played the Ravens lost the lead late in the game due to Troy Poloumolu sacking Joe Flacco and causing him to fumble. If the Ravens avoid this and let running back Ray Rice do the bulk of the work on offense they will squeak by.

season finish and playoffs

I ended the season with 155 wins and 89 losses for 1355 points. It's not quite official but I believe I dominated my opponents this year for the regular season. In fairness to John and Brad since they are both big Dallas Cowboy fans they had to make their picks under the influence of anti deppressants.
The playoffs start tomorrow and below are my picks.
Green Bay 30 Philadelphia 20 (4). Packers defense will suffocate an injured Micheal Vick.
Ravens 23 Chiefs 10 (3). Ravens defense will be too much for KC
Colts 24 Jets 20 (2). Manning must have his best game ready.
Seahawks 23 Saints 20 (1). My upset special. Saints are injured at running back at that will hurt them here.

NFL picks for final week of the season

Last week shows some good games and some with no meaning for teams already in the playoffs and some already eliminated.
Atlanta 30 Carolina 10 (16)
Steelers 20 Browns 17 (6)
Detroit 17 Vikings 14 (2). Detroit could make their winning streak 4
KC 21 Raiders 14 (3)
New England 28 Dolphins 7 (14).
Saints 24 Tampa Bay 14 (7). Saints fans should be concerned that Brees is throwing too many interceptions. Their still better than the Bucs.
Jets 14 Bills 10 (5)
Bengals 20 Ravens (1). Don't know why but Bengals have the Ravens number.
SD 21 Broncos 14 (4).
Packers 24 Bears 14 (13). Packers need to win to make the playoffs.
Colts 28 Titans 10 (15). Titans quit on the season a while ago
Eagles 24 Cowboys 21(9). Regardless of outcome this is the most disappointing season the cowboys have ever had.
SF 21 Arizona 14 (8).
Giants 24 Redskins 7 (12). May be time for the Redskins to admit that Shannahan is a bad fit as head coach.
Jaguars 21 Houston 17 (10). Houston may have the worst defense in the NFL
Rams 21 Seahawks 17 (11). The winner makes the playoffs with an 8 and 8 record. Pathetic
